Actions : Uterine stimulant, diuretic, astringent, reduces bleeding, urinary antiseptic, circulatory stimulant, reduces blood pressure

Constituents : Tyramine, choline acetylcholine, tannin, essential oil, resin, saponins, flavonoids, diosmine, potassium, vitamins A, B, C

Indications : More usually considered a weed, the heart shaped seed pods apparently resemble the leather pouches once carried by shepherds hence the common name; another is “mothers’ hearts”, a reminder that this is a useful herb for gynecological conditions. Used in cases of water retention due to kidney problems, cystitis; diarrhea; use the fresh herb as a poultice for bleeding wounds; soak a pad in the infusion as a compress for cuts, and soak small cotton swabs in the tincture and insert into the nostril for nose bleeds; use an infusion or tincture for stimulation of the menses and also in the reduction of excess flow; during labor will stimulate contractions and after delivery will ease postpartum bleeding.

!!Cautions : Avoid in pregnancy except during labor, as it is a uterine stimulant. If there is any sudden change in menstrual flow or blood in the urine, seek professional help before attempting self medication.
