Actions : Sedative, emmenagogue, anti-spasmodic, cardiac tonic, carminative

Constituents : Bitter glycosides, alkaloids, volatile oil, tannin, vitamin A

Indications : An important herb since Roman times, it derives the first part of its botanical name from the Greek word meaning lion’s tail, which describes the shaggy shape of the leaves. Used for stimulation of delayed or suppressed menses especially where there is anxiety or tension; as a tonic for menopausal changes; eases false labor pain and taken after childbirth to help restore the uterus and reduce the risk of postpartum bleeding; as a tonic for the heart, strengthening without straining, as a specific for over-rapid heartbeat caused by anxiety; use the infusion as a douche for vaginal infections and discharges.

!!Cautions : Avoid in pregnancy as is a uterine stimulant. Seek professional advice for all heart conditions.
