Actions : Astringent, tonic, digestive and bile stimulant, reduces phlegm, laxative, healing to gastric mucus membranes, raises blood pressure, bitter

Constituents : 5% of the root consists of alkaloids, traces of essential oil, resin, fatty oil

Indications : A traditional healing herb of Native Americans that entered the European herbal market in 1760. One of the most useful herbs available it has powerful tonic qualities towards the mucus membranes; use for all digestive problems such as gastritis, septic ulceration, colitis, loss of appetite; liver tonic for sluggish digestion and digestive problems associated with food sensitivity and alcohol excess; upper respiratory tract catarrh, nasal mucus; tincture can be used for vaginal discharge, PMS and heavy menstrual bleeding; use 5ml tincture in 100ml water to bathe irritant skin inflammations, eczema, measles, ringworm; use 2-3ml tincture in tumbler of warm water and use as a mouthwash/gargle for mouth ulcers, gum disease, sore throats; used 2-3ml tincture in water as a douche for vaginal discharge and yeast infections; for vaginal itching use 5ml tincture in 100ml rosewater as a douche; take 1x 200mg capsule 3 times a day for phlegm and gastric or respiratory infections; use 10ml tincture in 100ml water for “blocked ears and earache.

!! Cautions : Avoid during pregnancy as it is a uterine stimulant. It is hypersensitive so avoid in cases of high blood pressure. Do not use in ear if there is a risk that the eardrum is perforated. Eating the fresh plant can cause ulceration of the mucus membranes.
