Actions : Astringent, tonic, diuretic, vulnerary, cholagogue

Constituents : Tannins, glycosidal bitters, nicotinic acid, silicic acid, iron, vitamins B and K, essential oil

Indications : A gentle remedy, ideal for diarrhea especially in children; mucous colitis, appendicitis, indigestion. May be used in urinary incontinence, cystitis; bronchitis; heavy menstrual bleeding. As a gargle use for sore throat, nasal mucus and laryngitis. As an ointment or wash, use for wounds, bruises, sores, eczema and varicose ulcers. Use a weak infusion (10g herb to 500ml water) for conjunctivitis.

Traditional Folklore

Folk names : Church Steeples, Cocklebur, Garclive, Sticklewort, Stickwort

Used in protection sachets, also to banish negative energies. Was long used to reverse spells sent against the magician by sending them back to the hexer. Placed under the head was thought to make one sleep as if dead until it was removed.

!! Caution : Because it is astringent, do not use if suffering from constipation.
